Alice in Wonderland

Hi CouchLovers!

Today we suggest Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton. The film is inspired by the novel by Lewis Carroll Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, which was first published in 1865. Immagine

It is said that the events of this novel come from a story invented by Carroll for Lorina, Alice and Edith Liddell during an excursion. Later Carroll decided to extend the story (which at the beginning consisted in only four chapters) and commissioned the pictures to John Tenniel. As everybody knows, the novel talks about the Alice’s adventures in Wonderland, a magic world in which she meets a great number of strange characters. Among them there are the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts. However everything is only a fantastic dream, which Alice will never forget.

Among the great number of adaptations there are the cartoon by Walt Disney (1951) and the movie directed by Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland (2010). The movie talks about the events following what happens in the novel. Thirteen years after her first visit to that magic world, Alice (Mia Wasikowska) returns to Wonderland.

The characters she meets are inspired both by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and a second novel written by Carroll and talking about other Alice’s adventures: Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found Therealice-in-wonderland (1)In Wonderland Absolem shows her the Oraculum, in which it is represented her destiny: she has to fight against the Jabberwocky, a terrible monster serving the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter). Thanks to the help of the other characters (among them there is the Mad Hatter, interpreted by Johnny Depp), Alice manages to slain the monster and fights the Red Queen off. In this way the White Queen (Anne Hathaway) can reign again.

We hope you’ll enjoy this fantastic adventure in this magic world 🙂
